Today I’m gonna start a (hopefully) new series: Basic sewing patterns for Monster High Dolls. I’m gonna start with a a basic pattern for pants/shorts and give you a rough overview how to sew them too. Click here to download the pattern.
At first I’m cutting the two pieces of the pants. My patterns do not have seam allowances as I feel seam allowance is something very individual :’) I prefer about 5mm on doll clothes. You can cut the pieces individually or in one go, though on smaller pattern pieces I’d advise to go individually.
Iron and sew the hems of the legs. On human trousers you would do that as the last step, but doll legs are waaaay too small for that! You should serge or zigzag the hem before sewing it, which I,
uhm was too lazy, eeeeeh forgot.
Sew the darts into the pants’ sides.
Next up is the center front. See how I
decided that being lazy wasn’t an option as this fabric frays AF remembered zigzagging this time!
Then I made the waistline. Tbh I think next time I’m gonna swap out darts and waistline, since the waistline gets a nasty shape after the darts are sewn in. And it’s really hard to just bend the edge inside.
Once you did that, sew the center back, and remember not to close it entirely, or the butt of your doll won’t fit in.
The last thing to close is the seam between the legs.
Yeah I completely forgot the closure in the back (I’m not telling my cosplays usually have a lot of safety pins as closure. You can totally see that I am a trained tailor there), I advise to go for hook and eyes. Actually I don’t have small ones of them at home anymore, so nice excuse!
There we go!
